Steel Company Reduces Organizational Risk, Employee Turnover, and Improves Productivity with LVA

The Client

Tyasa is a Mexican steel company founded in 1985. They specialize in steel for construction (special, flat, and coated) for national and foreign markets. Their tech-forward approach ensures they always have the edge over the competition; it’s a philosophy that resonates throughout the organization, from the factory floor to the highest levels of leadership.

Tyasa engaged with Nemesysco to improve its hiring processes, specifically to reduce the incidence of bad hires, mitigate risk, and lower employee turnover.

The Challenge

The client’s main priority was to prevent hiring people with high-risk potential, improve the caliber of new hires, and thereby reduce employee turnover. Additionally, they wanted to leverage the LVA system to detect ongoing risky practices, procedural deviations, and policy violations. Meeting these objectives would enable Tyasa to maintain high productivity levels and prevent syndicate activists or agents from infiltrating the working environment—a significant concern in the steel industry.

Some of the risky and potentially destructive behaviors they needed to identify include:

  • Theft
  • Bribery
  • Criminal Associations
  • Labor Sabotage
  • Antagonistic Union Activism
  • Political Activism
  • Drug Abuse
  • Alcohol Consumption During Work Hours

Additionally, they wanted to assess their candidates’/employees’ aptitude for teamwork, commitment, and work ethic/motivation.

They needed a reliable and optimal cost-benefit solution for ongoing implementation. As a large company, they already had a complex stack of technology solutions in deployment. The new solution would need to be capable of integrating into their existing HR processes so the team would not have to alter their workflow significantly.

The Solution

Tyasa implemented the LVAi system. To ensure the solution was tailored to their specific needs, we supported them in developing their special questionnaire, trained their staff, and continue to provide ongoing support to ensure success.

Tyasa implements LVAi tests as one of the first filters in the hiring process. They now consider it indispensable; no candidate is hired without first taking the LVAi test.

To maximize the value of LVAi, tests are conducted regularly to detect high-risk conduct, providing early alerts and valuable information that enable Tyasa to apply corrective measures.

The Results

Within three years, Tyasa realized a 90% decrease in risky conduct and reduced employee turnover significantly.

The company has performed more than 2,500 interviews over seven years. They currently conduct 150 tests per month on average.

By leveraging LVAi in their interviews, Tyasa’s HR team could detect risky behaviors in a preventive and corrective manner. The primary behaviors identified included antagonistic union activism, workplace theft, and political activism within the organization.

As a result of applying LVAi to pre-employment or already-hired staff, 5% were found to be NOT RECOMMENDABLE according to their standards. Shrinkage and loss were reduced by more than 50% through containment or warning measures.
